Yep it would seem that with modern boilers the cover off has become a norm..greenstar gas range have the fill gauge behind the front cover...whilst the electronic one works for normal running when you bleed a rad or add inhibitor it gets into a auto purge loop because the thing keeps dropping the pressure...according to the manual you have to top up to the green fill line on the manual pressure gauge so that the system has enough pressure to auto purge otherwise you are back and forth through purge cycles. The only way to do that is take of the front cover.....
