Leaking brake fluid, what is the location?

Looking at the evidence of a leak but not much fluid coupled with the statement of losing a considerable amount, it sounds like it will be leaking into the footwell.

A very common failure.

I'm not ruling out that pipe but it's not my 1st choice
Yes caused a leak into footwell as it runs back thru bulkhead but was hidden by carpets soaking it up .
Needs better photos.

If it is causing a leak in the footwell, does the slave cylinder and clutch need to be changed?

Edit
I see yours is a 2013 car so I would not have thought you'd have general deterioration yet. I was thinking it was much older.

I would suggest it is least likely to be the hose, much more likely the slave cylinder leaking, and where the pedal push-rod enters. The pipe is steel, apart from the lower end, where there is a flexible section. Changing either master, or it's pipe, does not involve any slave replacement, or any work on the clutch itself -rather there is a self-sealing quick release joint, which allows the master + upper section of pipe to be replaced, avoiding the need to bleed the hydraulics.

The slave cylinder leaking would be leaking into the footwell?

What I will do for cost efficiency is

1/ Change the pipe
If no joy
2/ Change the master cylinder
If no joy
3/ Change slave and clutch

Thing is, I could feel the leak with my finger from the pipe at connection with master cylinder so seems like there’s definitely an issue there - even if it be a missing seal

What do we think? Reasonable approach?

You obviously do have a leak at the master. If you also suspect a leak at the slave, check under the clutch bell housing, for fluid. There is always a deliberate gap there, to allow fluid to escape - check it is dry.

The only way to know, is to engage the Mk I eyeball!

I ended up taking the car to ford for diagnostics. They told me there was a leak, I asked to show a picture. Over the phone the manager said it was at the front. They’ve now said this and are closed for Xmas.

But this looks dry to me? Any thoughts? Am I right in thinking there is no evidence of a leak on this picture?

Thanks

If they mean the leak is at the front, do they mean under the bonnet? But why show that picture if so

What did they say needs changing , or not ?

Looks as dry as a bone to me.

and me!

I cannot quite get my head around it - Is that a double firewall/bulkhead, where the master is located between the two firewalls? I'm not seeing the master, in your most recent photo, just the push rod, poking through the bulkhead.

From what I think I see in your photos....

I see a low pressure plastic pipe, supplying fluid from your brake master reservoir. Below that, I see the metal high pressure pipe[1], running from the clutch master, on and down towards the clutch slave. I see the point below [1], very wet with fluid.

Best guess at the moment, is that the master cylinder is somehow leaking, and that the angle of the body, is making the lost fluid appear under the bonnet.

The evidence of the leak is you keep losing fluid and having to top it up. You couldnt find it but Ford have now confirmed a leak.

Let them fix it and you can drive safely.

Loss of fluid from the clutch system, should not affect the brakes - both use the same reservoir, but the clutch master fluid, is tapped off much higher than the brakes.
