Morning,

My first post, and hoping someone can help me a little!

I've just drained the CH system to replace a radiator in the bathroom with a towel radiator.

This went fine (as far as I can tell).

But when I started to refill the system (ie open the small black tap which pressurizes the system, and the black needle on the pressure gauge starts to rise) I get a leak from a valve. I have no idea what this is, but I think it normally gets hot and spurts out water when the top is pressed down. I've taken it apart and it has a small float valve in it.

Can anyone tell me why this has started to drip all of a sudden?

I've re-drained the system again, and so need to try to find out why this is dripping.

Many thanks for any help.....

Here's a pic - it's the one in the middle of the photo!

I have no idea what that is. I will have to check my books. Other will come along and might know what it is.
Have you tried take apart and clean up, might be muck inside that affecting water seal?

Daniel.

Many thanks for your reply!

Well, I re-filled the system, having ended up with a soppy towel, and bled all of the radiators.....it started to leak again, and got worse as the pressure went up to .75 bar. So I re-bled all of the rads, again, and started the boiler anyway once most of the air was out of the system. It continued to drip, but seems to have sorted itself out - it did seem to release a lot of pressure once, and splurted a bit of water over the wall, but (for now at least) it seems to have stopped. I will keep an eye on it!

Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated!

it is an automatic air releif valve and so is the other one on the left hand side in your pic, looks like someone has had problems before with your system air locking you shouldnt need two

Thanks for all of your replies.

The house is only 13 years old, and I moved in when it was 3 years old, so as far as I am aware it's all the original pipework. I did take the float out and clean it, so maybe this helped. It's been dry for around an hour now, so I'm still not sure why it was dripping. Anyhow, fingers crossed it seems OK.

Thanks again............

As you have cleaned it this quite often works , the float works the same way as your toilet cistern but as it seldom has to drop then crud builds up and causes it to pass when it does drop so hopefully you will be OK if not try cleaning it again before replacing it

13 years ago? Who fitted that? Did you? Because the picture is horrific with wrong fittings and 2 auto air vents?

Edit I seen another vent!

No I definitely didn't fit it! It was there from when the house was new......not sure who installed it......
