Leaking Radiator

I'm sure the job wont be too bad - but I've only done a Focus one recently....the awkward bit is usually releasing the jubilee clips or those dreadful sprung clips which are best disposed of and replaced. Use the correct antifreeze, as some types don't like to mix with the Ford stuff. Enjoy! Cheers John

Right then - update time. Got the car in my brother-in-laws garage last night and left it running for 45mins - no signs of leaks. Fan came on several times so must have got up to max temperature and therefore i assume max pressure. Also tried revving the engine which forces water back into the top of the header tank at some speed but still no sign of leaks. Took the car for a drive and back in the garage and still no leaks.

Where i felt wet on Monday must have been rain but i've no idea how rain got to where I felt it was wet???

Driven the car to work this morning (13miles) and checked the level when i arrived and it doesn't appear to have gone down at all? And yet last week it lost 4pints of fluid in just over 100 miles done in 6 days (2 of which the car was parked up at home)?

If it is the head gasket causing me problems, what else can i look for for signs its gone? What exactly am i looking for on the underside of the oil filler cap? Or is it something that doesn't really have any tell-tale signs? Would the head gasket be consistent with losing so much fluid over such a small space of time?

If a head gasket fails, it does not correct itself.
It can fail in different ways.
The leak could be into one of the cylinders, which when the engine is running would overpressures the cooling system, blowing water out of the expansion tank, you may get a lot of steam from the exhaust.
The head gasket can also leak into the oilways this will result in water getting into the sump, classic indication being emulsified oil on oil filler cap, it looks like mayonnaise.
Being that the car is no longer losing water, the head gasket is probably ok.
You could have experienced a partial air lock in the cooling system that has now cleared, (I had this trouble with my BMW, very difficult to bleed)
I hope everything stays stable.
