Hi I'd like to learn about electrics and possibly train to become an electrician in the future. WHat would be the first steps to take? I know a bit about electrics, basic things such as lighting and ring circuits, 2 and 3 way switching.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

The WIKI is a good place to start , also books are a good way to learn..If you dont know the difference between voltage/current and resistance then browse the internet and start with that first.

And if you do want to do that I would caution against learning too much beforehand.

With depressing frequency we see people here who are on such courses when they really should not be because they simply do not have the ability - they struggle to understand the simplest things.

There's no streaming on courses like that, and if you happen to be on one where progress is hampered by someone like that it will be frustrating - if you already know the material anyway you will be bored witless.

Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology
At the moment 2330 Level 2, would suit a beginner looking to get in to the trade. If you are of an age and a position to get on to an apprenticeships, that would be beneficial to hands on knowledge
But if you contact your local colleges that offers Certificates in Electrotechnical Technology, then they will advise you on what the best steps are for you.
