Really regretting not doing this job ourselves but figured it’s one of those best left to ‘professionals’. Now left to us to sort out. And if you can believe it this is the second time we’ve had someone in to level this floor (currently taking the previous guy to small claims as we had to hire someone to scrape off what he did).

So we had someone in to level our old concrete floor (approx 20m2). As recommended by Ardex they did a layer of Arditex NA to seal, then a liquid dpm followed by another layer of NA on top. However the floor still isn’t level enough for a floating floor. There are dips approx 6mm deep which is outside of the tolerances specified by manufacturers. And the whole floor slopes to either end, like a bulge in the middle that was there originally but not levelled out.

I thought it would be simple enough to use more NA and level out ourselves but after checking with Ardex they advised that the top layer of NA must not be thicker than the bottom (apparently if more is added on top it can pull away the bottom layer). The guys used 5 bags on the bottom and just over 4 on the top. Ardex also told us that only NA can be used over NA as I asked about their feather edge product as an alternative.

So looking for the best option to fix so we can get on with laying a floor.

Option 1 - use small amounts of NA to fill in dips as best we can and hope floor sloping is not too bad (hard to tell with only a 2m spirit level)

Option 2 - use plywood/osb before underlay but not sure how this could be fixed in place other than glued down

Option 3 - pad out dips somehow with some additional underlay, or use an extra thick one

Option 4 - risk it and use NA or another product to level

Or if anyone else has a better solution. I know we could also go for carpet or vinyl instead but that’s really not what we want.

Option 4 should be ok over a concrete base subfloor.

What floating floor are you installing?

Either laminate or engineered. Had someone over from Tapi floors yesterday to get their opinion and they said they could not install a click floor, we’d have to go for a stick down lvt. The ones he showed look like sh**.

So we might just have to risk option 4
