Lifting a Beam

Just thought I would update on progress and success of the job. I got the builders merchant lorry driver to lift the beam centre of the driveway. I was going to use pipes as suggested to maneuver it to the rear but was offered 2 pallet trolleys which used in conjunction with sheets of ply for a smooth running surface got it to the back and in place ready for a lift. I hired 2 Genie lifts and they lifted the beam into place brilliantly!

Thanks to all for your help

Hi

In your situation the SE should have broken the beam down into 3 equal sections with steel flange plates to bolt the sections together!

Go back to your SE and ask him 'why not'? A one piece section is ok where its a new build and your craning the beam in, but to expect this on a refurb is asking for a whole lot of trouble!!

Only problem now is that you have the beam on site and drilling holes and cutting beam into 3 equal sections is going to be a bit more problematic than had it been done in the fabricators - or you could send the beam back to the fabricators for the ammendmants. Assuming SE is agreable!
