Light fitting with no wire colours

Hi All,

I have just moved house and opened the box marked light fittings... So in my haste not to forget the bedroom light fitting I omitted to check the wiring before it was removed. When I have come to fit in to our new house, I see that the three wires coming from the fitting are all clear sheathed. I have looked high and low to no avail - there is nothing to identify any of them.

I do have a multimeter in a box somewhere so I could perform some tests. If someone could guide me on the settings and tests I should be trying.

If you look closely, there's a fine coloured thread in each of the wires. Near the label if you look through the outer sheath, you can see brown on the left and blue on the right.

Ill take another look in the morning - I guess my eyes are playing tricks as they all looked the same!
