Thank you everyone all fixed! Managed to use a connector block in the end which negates the need for a loop and those closed end crimps. Seems much more secure than before.

Some of mine is very similar (I suspect that Artex combs tend to be the same size/shape ; I'll see if I can get a photo sometime!

Ah, yes, 'sharpened' woodchip paper

There are an awful lot of far more 'artistic' possibilities than that, like many of these .

We had a lot of the "broken leather" effect artex here. Luckily it was quite easy to skim over (for my plasterer, not for me!).

Worse than Artex was the "stone" paint (white emulsion with sharp gritty bits in it) we decorated my Ma's lounge with in the 80's. Like an industrial belt sander on your scalp when you leant your head back on it...

Like you get anti-climb paint, maybe it's anti-kneetrembler paint?
