Lintel above front door

Hi All,

I’m looking to have a new door put in as the current upvc one is looking scruffy. I removed the plastic boxing in from around the door and it appears it has no lintel. The house was built circa 1910 and has a stone lintel on the outer leaf but nothing on the inner. The original glazing firm bodged the job by the looks of it as the window to the left of the door is only held in by mastic!

Photo attached... not sure if I should remove the bricks and try and squeeze a concrete lintel in or put an angle iron in spanning the full width.

The door? It’s very poorly fitted as the original glazers haven’t deducted anything of the width and height to allow for alignment. Its been forced in and isn’t square so opens/closes poorly and It’s very faded on the outside and has a rather large split along the bottom.

I’m thinking of putting a 100 x 65 x 1800 concrete lintel in, hopefully that should do it.

We have a lintel outside that bridges the external leaf however we don’t have one on the inside and the bricks are just sat on the door and window frame. Luckily the floor joists run to the side walls but we don’t have any lintel on the internal leaf.
