Hi learned ones.
Fitting a window & set of French doors to an old extension with a 70mm cavity & 3" internal blocks. I have acquired a pair of suitable lintels but notice the bracing ridge is tapered to one side, which way around are they supposed to go? Thought tells me the angled edge should point towards the outer wall to deflect any moisture to the outside; is this correct or doesn't it matter?

some lintles are pre stressed and normally have TOP written in the concrete. on the other hand the ones from wickes are just normal without any markings. if it sais top on, then top goes up. otherwise, n/a.

Sorry, perhaps I should have made it more clear; this is a steel, catnic lintel; no question about which way up it goes, just which side face inside & which side faces outside!

which side looks the easiest to plaster ;)

What; I don't what to plaster the cavity! Thanks for your posts but I seem to be having a little trouble here; a Catnic (or similar) steel lintel is a thin piece of steel with a pointy bit in the middle that goes up inside the cavity; one side is vertical & the other side is angled, forming a triangle. My question is which way to install it, angle pointing inside or out!

Thanks for confirming Masona, that's exactly what I thought.
