Guys,

Thank god for this site!!!!! I 've a Britony II T water heater that appears to no longer produce sufficently hot water.

When I open a tap close to the water I get a small bit of hot water, but the hot water tap in the kitchen suffers (maybe because of the distance between the boiler and the tap).

I've tried to turn down the flow by closing the stop tap slightly but this doesn't have any overall effect. The only other thing I've noticed is that is I only half open a tap or open the tap fully very slowly the boiler doesn't fire but. I couldn't be sure that this hasn't always been the case.

Any help would be as always greatly appreciated.

Terry

I'm sure HG is right, but I recently went into central London to fix one of these, and it took SIX visits! That's about £15 in parking alone. Just thought I'd share that with you  :D

why 6 visits ? just had a nightmare job replacing a diaphram on a Britony Flexiflue which is much harder to replace than on the iit. see my post today

I had to explain it to he who was paying so have it writ down:
Wouldn't have believed it possible on such a simple thing. Only one of the visits was "my fault" I think.

1st visit Weds "Not lighting properly" so I took a diaphragm. The black plastic disc the diaph pushes was broken up. Didn't have one of those.
Bought service kit

2nd visit, Thurs changed that, and the thermocouple. The tc solenoid was dud. Have never changed one of those, didn't have one.
Bought solenoid.

3rd visit, Fri before Xmas changed that, and piezo ignition & electrode cos it wouldn't light pilot properly, and it ran fine for a week.

Then (Today, 2nd Jan)No hot water. Report first came that the fan was running (slowly), so the gas valve must be sticking to break the plastic disc, according to chaff.
Searched country, found only 2, miles away. Gloom.
Wondered if punter was turning the knob to "run" so rechecked ... and
Report came that it was dead, and fan not running. So, knowing the APS can blow fuses on those, I bought one. (About £100 retail!)
This takes time!!

4th visit Put fuse in, fan ran, but lotsa sparks.
Parts on pcb blown to bits.

Took APS back to supplier for credit.

5th visit, took a "New" unused pcb I've had for a while - it was my father-in law's...
It worked a bit, then it didn't.
Spent an hour with a soldering iron trying to get one board working from the old and the new, but the circuit diagram in the manual is WRONG and there seemed to be more than one fault on the unused pcb. Late, gave up, went home.
6th visit, took a new new pcb.

Working in London isn't so bad. Say there are 8 Landlord Certs, £70 each. Fiver for a travelcard. Charge 'em all £5 parking and £8 Congestion Charge, make £99 for going to work, making £659 for the day and home in time for something really exciting on telly.. ;) ;) ;)

So what did that job cost them, about 3 times the cost of a new one?

£99 for landlord cet 8 a day?

That's it, I'm starting the van.

Chris are we getting mixed up here

I didnt know the Brittony 2T water heater had circuit boards and fans.

Good story though just typical. Dont know how you boys work down there. Its alot better up north although a bit Grim

By the way I would change the diaphragm

Hi Guys,

I am having problem with my Britony II T water heater. The Piolet went off so i turned it back on like in the book but as soon as I turn the dial past the mid point it goes off again. If I leave the dial half way the piolet stays on but that does not help as heater fire doesn't come on when hot water tap is opened.

Any ideas?

Started with muarrif's problem, July last year replaced Thermocouple @£40 went again 3weeks later (replaced foc) then Jan this year same problem with water running hot in basin tap, hot then cool in Bath, and note even warm in Sink downstairs. New gas valve £250 ? new heater £350 not messing about anymore. Saying that the boiler is at least 15years old so I am not complaining. My advice would be not to throw money at fixing the problem, when you can buy a new one for that sort of price.

In first instance Muriaf it is probably the thermocouple, these two guys e all get one like it once in a while but it's not a reason not to get out of bed in the morning and go to work, we have to still carrry on. There are many jobs which are a doddle to fix. Just got to hope yours is one of those.

Hi Guys,

Is there any plumbers available to come and have a look at my Britony II water heater and do what ever it is to fix it. I understand it might be the diaphram or maybe even easier to replace the water valve for the problem I am having.

The issue is there is constant pilot light, but when you switch a hot water tap on it fails to ignite and give hot water all the time. It sometimes work and sometimes not, other times it will ignite but fails to give hotwater or gives very little hot water and then goes cold again.

I am based in Dagenham.

When someone asks me to "come and have a look" that always worries me because I have visions of someone who expects a free diagnosis. I then have to explain that I will always charge a diagnostic fee.

Most of those can be far from easy and as you will see reading the eearlier posts they can demonstrate a succession of faults as each is repaired.
