Live cable indicator

I have a portable detector for hidden metal, wiring and studs in walls behind plasterboard. When a cable is live, the detector beeps instead of a steady tone for dead cables.

Search for live wire detector online. Make sure it is audible. should be less than £10.

Tape the detector to the heater cable, and switch the detector on when you start the heater, and off when you stop it

...keeping a 30 gallon tank constantly hot unnecessarily is expensive...

I power my lagged immersion heater constantly during the day, allowing the tank thermostat to keep the water temperature constant. I have found it to be no more expensive & a lot more convenient than turning on the power manually and heating the water from cold each time I want hot water.
