Hi all,
I'm just a DIYer but reasonably savvy hopefully. I've tried to install a thumb-turn deadbolt for the first time, on my bathroom door, and am having a problem. I've drilled the 25mm hole (75mm deep) into the thickness of the door, drilled the 16mm hole through the width of the door, the deadbolt unit fits into the hole fine, got everything aligned with the spindle etc. My problem is that when it's held in my hand, the deadbolt turns smoothly in a single movement, but when installed in the door it's much harder to turn and it needs a clear 'two stage' movement for the bolt to extend fully. I'm assuming that the little 'catch' on the slider mechanism (**circled in red on the attached photo**) is scraping on the bottom of the hole, so I've chiselled a shallow 'channel' for it down the middle of the main hole, on the bottom edge. This hasn't helped though. What am I doing wrong? Thanks very much.
