I have no grudge against her but I don’t understand some of the OTT reactions.

Rights by birth take different forms and you wouldn't invent the monarchy now if starting from scratch. She just happened to inherit a lot from her ancestors, and the character of the British countryside, fine art etc etc has been positively preserved as a result. Can you imagine if her assets were put up to the highest bidder.

I've never quite understood why the hard right media are so anti the monarchy, it's as if they see its moderating influence as a threat to their own economic and political aspirations.

Don't forget the armed forces oath of allegiance is to the Queen personally, and that might be important if some of the muppets inhabiting the hard right/far right/alt right get a real foothold in democratic politics.

I've always understood it to be the left that wants rif of the monarchy as they see it as an antiquated part of society and they don't agree with their inherited privilege. There seems to be many leftist publications have published pieces regarding the removal of the monarchy from the guardian and independent to name 2. Many left wingers associate the monarchy as a symbol of racism and take offence at the association with British colonialism.

I am unable to find evidence the right far right wish to abolish the monarchy, normally they see the queen as the epitome of Britishness and celebrate the colonialism associated with the monarchy.

Age?, also, Kate and William are possibly more relevant to todays society/generations. I can imagine Charles will delegate far more than the Queen did in anticipation of this, job sharing.

Age? So the rules of succession cease to apply because some people are ageist?

As to relevance - we have an older society now than we did 70 years ago, so surely an older monarch is more appropriate? Assuming a monarch is relevant at all in this modern age
