Depends where in the country they live and what job they do. Obviously a burger flipper in central London won’t be able to live where they work but an 'average' wage earner living up north probably could get a house with just a years wages!

You seem to think all houses up north are cheap... well sorry to burst your bubble. They ain't, parts of the north are as expensive as the south east.

that’s incorrect. my nephew (in wales) earns around £17,500 has just bought a house on his own. £8,500 deposit and mortgage of 66,000 over 35 yrs.

but you have to account for all properties that make up the average. likewise with earnings.

yes you could, that’s the sort of work I come across. I’d be in the same ball park or more and that’s in in west wales . because I know of the hassle and pitfalls that may occur.

Live in the SE and just looked into getting a new back door - door itself is £250, but feeling lazy, looked at fitting costs and it's £500! So... you're hired, lol.

In Surrey / Sussex carpenters charge from £150 to £250 a day, typically.

your materials are £50+ with a standard panel door. thats without your fuel mot fetching and carrying. your on less than £100 for a job that could turn into a 2-3 day nightmare. not to mention making up skirting cutting thresholds, carpets etc. your too cheap.

the houses of lower value and earnings of lower income make up the average . you used them to get your average. you can’t disregard them and still expect to use them for your argument.
