Looking for a decent electric drill

Yes a trades person may well know (should know) the benefits of a particular tool. But in context of this and other "recommend a tool" threads, the person who needs to ask that question, especially if a DIYer, won't know the difference between a £200 drill with a brand name or a £19.99 special from Argos or Aldi, and I doubt will get any benefit at all from paying the extra just for the name.

Yes, I agree with you. I was always taught from an early age to always buy the best you can afford as it saves spending more in the long run.
I have heard good reports of Lidl's cordless drill range and don't doubt that for DIY'ers they are good value for money.

Reading the original post, I suspect the OP (and his descendants) would like this drill to have a 30 year plus life expectancy, with the only maintenance being a bit of tape - how anyone can suggest that a battery drill, used maybe 3 times a year, meets the brief for this is beyond me.

Good point. After 7(?) years the battery will go flat after 15(ish) minutes of use. That said, are there any corded drills that can safely be used as a screwdriver?

That is a LIDL Parkside PNS300 drill/driver. 300 watts, 2-variable speeds (0-400/0-1600rpm), 22 torque settings for screwdriving, max torque 40Nm, 1 setting for drilling and the chuck comes off revealing a 1/4in hex bit holder. So about the equivalent of a low to middle market cordless drill, perhaps? Bought it a few years back for the odd DIY task down at the caravan. It hasn't got an impact drill setting for masonry, but then it doesn't need one in a caravan.
