Low Gas working pressure at Boiler

You are free to do want you want in your own home!!

But imo ppl like you are the type that blow themselves up (trouble is other get caught in the blast 2)

Your comments regarding Corgi are based on misconceptions, any body that cares for the safety of life regardless of law wins over for me.

The cost of installation by a competent installer in comparison to the potential danger possed to life is far less, imo!!

i am right what i say about this organisation it exits to make itself ££££ forget safety no doubt they have to look as though they care but come on u r not looking at or reading what i saying and as for people like me ? who am i how do u know i dont have a u gauage do u use some other extraterestial tool i dont know about ? it isnt rocket science my friend to do a tightness test anyway i digress
i reiterate what i say CORGI is a money maker pure and simple why else is it there to oversee the standards involved in GAS name one other trade that has to do there exams from the beginning no matter how long u been a gas fitter ? every 4 or 5 years is it dont they trust u lot or ah i know you have to PAY to do that ah another money maker hmm BQ i wonder if i can get any gas err bits no bobs to do me a hob fit
registered gas fitter hmm now surely you would know the law of the land ? u tell us all if there is any GREY areas

ps i do agree no one with no knowledge of gas should do there own work but it has to be made unlawful or DIY weekend heros wont listen

oh i fogot to get personal ok here we go

hmm people like u ah forget it lets just say nuff said about that lil old toothless MONGREL down the street ( corgi ) till they wake up and shake up the large DIY sellers nothing will change ty

now where did i put that U gauge thingymejig

Slogger CORGI may or may not be toothless but their bosses most definnatley have big huge fangs (the HSE) so be careful as quite rightly you can do what you want in your own home but if, god forbid, you get it wrong you will be up to your neck with coppers as you will have committed a criminal offence (reckless endangerment of life and/or property at the very least)

u miss my point i dont and wont encourage anyone working on gas appliances (unqualified) what my main point is why does corgi allow these said appliance to be sold directly to the public if you are not meant to fit them yourself ? hence toothless stands to be the only thing to describe them as for the hse how many riddors do you know of that get looked at them binned as the house owner says i dont know who it was that done that gas job cant remember m8 ask any transco (toffo) man how many times he has said to a ( punter) who fitted this then he gets the shoulder shrug ( dunno m8 )

BAN SALES OF GAS APPLIANCE TO JOE PUBLIC

make the gas trade rich but hey saftey first yes ? or hmm no lets get that cash in woof woof ( corgi) get darn u mongrel

no spell checker waz hirt in the maykin of this :D

If CORGI is so safety concerned why are are there so many people struck off each year, surely if they are that dangerous they should never have been accepted in the first place. I wouldn`t be so cynical to think they where only accepted for the first years £450 registration an selling on of other products.Has any CORGI inspector ever been sacked for acceptng and allowing these dangerous people out loose on the public with a badge of competence. Some of the most dangerous jobs i have seen have been done by registered guys.

If a RGI has been struck off the register, it does not automatically mean he is incompetent. There are several reasons for being struck off. One of them is not resitting regular appraisal exams, and another lapsing payments to CORGI to quote just two.

DP be honest how often do you see those reasons given in the gas installer mag very rare, when people don`t resit acas or pay there fees this is because they don`t want to be registered anymore as oppossed to being removed

Just putting my pennys worth in but, 17mb working pressure is not low at all ? you should be trying to get not less than 1mb drop from the meter to the boiler BUT as your test nipple is at the inlet of the gas valve not at the end of the pipework (the start of the boiler) thy resistance fom the boiler isolation valve internal pipework and gas valve connection plus the inlet filter of the gas valve will add up to around 1.5 to 2mb depending on the boiler NO one fits test points at the end of the gas carcess before the boiler to test the inlet presure(domestic ). If the BURNER min presure and max presure are ok then fine .I agree with Chris regarding Corgi but back to the point regardless of who is doing it the inlet presure acording to regs is the INLET to the boiler not the inlet at the gas valve. Moan over

Slogger, you hit the nail on the head when you said about the likes of B & Q losing money, the retail industry in this country has a lot more clout then Corgi, I am Corgi registered and I agree we pay our fees to Corgi in return for nothing.

I have been a heating engineer since leaving school in 1981 I attended college and attained my City & Guilds, I have fitted hundreds of boilers, miles of gas pipe, loads of gas meters during my life as a heating engineer and I have kept myself up to date with regular training courses, so, I consider myself a good and qualified tradesman, so with all these years experience and been involved in the industry, why is it that I have to pay and take ACS examinations every five years and pay Corgi to prove I am competent to install gas appliances and yet, Mr DIY who cannot even put paint on straight can fit gas appliances without any training or costs to himself, how is that fair, oh, and before the usual answer comes about been paid for the work, what difference does that make, it will not make the installation any more dangerous because you were paid to do it.

I'm fairly happy with corgi. If I'm not sure about something I can give them a call and find out. I do forget things - like I can't remember how much the annual fee is - is it 180 or 280? Either way it's peanuts. A pound a working day or something. Retraining every 5 years - about the same amount and again, bhugger all.
I was a techie in about 4 industries before wot I do now, and was always buying books- often £50 upwards - which would come to the same or more. (Plus I was out of date every couple of years so had to retrain myself or be Redundant again). Anyone Legal has huge book bills to pay - not to mention thousands a month for a senior Legal on Indemnity Insurance.
I think we get it pretty easy!

Corgis by the way aren't mongrels they're pedigree animals - though they're a bit of an anatomical disaster so the analogy holds!

okay we can agree corgi are amoney making machine with no teet
1/i am corgi reg
2/i lose more work to unregistered/diy derecks, because i insist on working over and above the min regs
3/you will never stop knobheads doing gas work while diy sheds stockgasfittings
4registered installers should only fit/supply there own no commissioning of derecks work.rant over

ChrisR, you think it is ok to have to re-sit ACS exams every five years, cost yourself a bundle and have to take time off work
Doctors only have to get qualified once, they do not have to prove their competence every five years in what they already know and I think that their knowledge needs to be more critical that gas fitters
