Mad dogs and Englishmen

i agree but how you going to do that ?
you can't tell by looking/speaking to someone that they are short tempered, got no time for the dog, abusive the list is endless.

I thought that identical twins had the same DNA, is that not right?

That's exactly what I was basing my theory on.... ;)
I did say 'I wasn't sure' ..... But Lincs stamped on it as usual.......
After reading up on it for an hour or so........I'm none the wiser...

and then there are some people who have 2 sets of DNA......freaky

and half these people who buy dogs as an image thing haven't got a clue
how to be the pack leader, most dogs with aggression issues relates to other problems such as socialising, diet, exercise etc.
I refer you to my previous question.

Why are potential owners not assessed for suitability?

We've had the same question in relation to parenting ;) most of those that would do the deciding have the biggest problems methinks. They maybe the same people that would decide who has a Yorkie, Poodle, Staffie etc.

Fair point. I suppose that you could make a start by looking at their track record, should one exist.

Not sure about this one, but I'll sling it in the ring anyway: How about asking the neighbours?

ofc they dont. Do you have the same DNa as your sister or brother? no!
no strictly true, brothers have the same Y chromosome

No, thats not the same thing at all, theres variants in the DNA in chromosomes, we dont even have identicle Y chromosomes. You and i have about 99.99% the same DNA, you and I and a chimp picked randomly from the african savannah have about 99.1 % the same dna, but you, me and the chimp do NOT have 100% the same DNA, no two living creatures above the level of single cell animals have 100% identical DNA, hence they can be individually identified, we are all unique.

The DNA we all have with the LEAST variant is the Mitochondrial DNA transmitted by our mothers to us. Broadly speaking, every single human alive today has a fragment of the mitochondrial DNA from a group of females alive about 200,000 years ago in Africa. These group of women are collectively known as Mitochondrial Eve, and had the original Haplogroup that all humans now have, Haplogroup A.

Because of the more rapid mutation of the Y chromosome, the MRCA (Most Recent Common Ancestor) on the male side, known as Y-Chromosomal Adam, was only about 90,000 years ago.

The single individual human with the most traceable ancestors may be Ghengis Khan. There about 1 million chinese who can show genetic linkage to him.

So is there such a thing as identical twin dogs? I understood not!
If not DNA poop testing would still find the un-scooped poop culprits and owners resulting in heavy fine and lashes.

Sorry JMLs. I had seen your post and as interesting as it is, I took a long walk earlier and was disgusted in the amount of dog sh@t let un-scooped on paths/routes used for both pedestrians a cyclist.

Suppose you could extend this to many spheres - who guards the guards? (or mods the mods? ;) )

Joking apart, it doesn't sit right that the family I referred to when I opened this thread could quite easily go and get a replacement dog tomorrow, and possibly treat it in such a way that it gives a repeat performance (but next time possibly against a child?).

then your saying i should never own a german shep or doberman
that would be your answer if you looked at my record or asked neighbours.
but all my dogs have been fully trained in Obedience & agility.

ah yes, but identicle twins come in two varieties.

one sort derives from two eggs, these are not genetically identical.

the other sort derives from a single egg that splits in two , so they are generically identical, but then you can argue there not two individuals, there two halves of the same individual. But ill concede the point to you

Have you a history of maltreating dogs to the extent that they had to be destroyed after attacking something?

Do you leave your dogs to roam free all over the shop and let them become a public nuisance?

I think that is the sort of evidence that neighbours could provide.

Heck, as a house landlord applying for my HMO, the council have written to the local residents to check for any nuisance factor. Asking neighbours if they consider an applicant to be completely unsuitable to look after a dog seems reasonable to me

How do you legislate for the rogues in any sphere as it never seems to catch those it was intended to.

No they don't. There are not 2 forms of 'identical twin', only one. The other is a 'twin' and non-identical
