Manrose extractor fan wiring diagram help.

Fitting a new extractor fan model QF100HTX5CON, fan works but not as intended, its being fed from a 3amp fcu as per installation notes.

The wiring diagram for the model shows that for the fan to operate in simple mode off/on - no timer or humidisat the permanent live and live switched must be bridged - ok so far, it does that, so bridge removed to get the humidity/ timer working.

For the humidity/timer to kick in a switched live needs to be provided, so at the fan there is Live, Neutral and Switched live - ok done that.

But regardless of the switch position when the circuit is turned on the fan just runs.

I get it that if the switched live is on when the circuit is turned on from the consumer unit then the fan will run until it hits its humidity target. but the fan just runs with the switch in the off position when the circuit is turned on and can only be turned off at the isolator.

Looking at the wiring diagram there is a coil shown between the neutral and live switched but no mention is made in the notes...See below.

Anybody have any ideas as to what the coil is, tried manrose tech line...just got busy all the time

The coil is the bathroom light!
If you loop perm live to switched live then the fan will run all the time, and any light will be on all the time.

Pls clarify what you want to trigger the fan? Just humidity, or do you want it to run if the light is switched on, and then run on when the light is turned off?

I would say the coil is the bathroom light, the Manrose I have has an over run mine is set to run for 20min after it is switched off. It is adjustable.
In your diagram there is a switched live through the switch and a permanent live to the fan directly through what I assume is the time delay unit (the square with three switches shown)

It will run either for the set time. Are you waiting long enough for it to stop?
Plus - if the humidity is set too low it will run for ever.

At what percentage have you set the humidistat?

That is the isolator.

With my Manrose humidistat fan, I just used the perm live and neutral. I didn't want it to turn on with the light. From memory, mine didn't have a timer over run. I was only concerned about humidity. It worked well.

I find with my Manrose humidistat fan, using the light helps start the fan, (sensor can be slow to react) and then make use of the sensor after the shower, by turning the light off, and letting the sensor clear the bathroom of steam

Mine, I found that the humidistat would kick in about 5 mins after starting to run/draw the bath.

I have to confess that I ran it off the ring (via a FCU). I also jerry rigged it so that I turn the perm live into a switched live and then flick a switch to make it turn on to get rid of "smells", additionally, on the occasions that the fan would kick in on humid nights, I was able to isolate it. The latter occasions were rare, but 5 or 6 times during summer, it would run continuously.

Yeah, I found it would kick in after 5 mins, trouble was there was so much steam present at that time, and fan wouldn't successfully/quickly clear it

Not had those problems in summer.
But it did take a lot of fine adjustment to get it working sensibly.

Ok my conceptual mistake

The switched live isolates the timer / humidity sensor and then the fan runs as a normal fan, as the basic fan mode shows the permanent live linked with the switched live meaning that the humidty/timer is turned off when it gets power, but when power is sent to the SL the fan will still run unless you trip a a switch to cut its permanent live / neutral.

After emailing tech support this is the answer they gave...

Following our conversation today I ask around regarding your query below.



The symbol you are referring to means that the fan can be wired in 2 ways.

• Permanent live and Neutral and the fan will only come on when it detects humidity.
• Permanent live, Neutral and Switched live, as above but also can be manually switched with light switch or a remote switch or pull cord.

as mine runs constantly with both timer and humidty both set to the lowest / highest unless the main power is cut I am going to assume faulty unit. bbasically there should be a wake up between the fan being given power and the humidty sensor picking up moisture and starting the fan. Mine just starts straight away.

Disconnect the SL
Set timer to min

Then adjust the humidity to both extremes and see if the fan stops

Humidity sometimes works the opposite to what u expect

Thank you but been there.. had the thing wired into a plug top on the bench in a room with 40% humidity just starts no matter what the humidity is set to.
