Hi I hope someone can clarify this for me I am trying to establish something about mechanical protection and whether it is a recommendation or a regulation in this case.
We have a brick built shed in the garden and it had wiring clipped to the wall for lighting and power in the shed when the property was wired to the 17th edition a year ago. We were told because it is in a shed/cupboard area it could get damaged by tools etc being put away and so it would need to be mechanically protected to comply with the 17th edition. We were advised that capping would do so we got some plastic capping and covered the cables with it. We were then told that this capping was no good and it should have been MT2 capping what ever that is or conduit, so it is getting a bit silly now since my electrical wholesaler does not even know what this is and sells the standard pvc or galvanised type, both I assume which are for putting inside the wall normally.
So my questions are as follows:-
1. Is mechanical protection in these situations a recommendation or a regulation?
2. What is MT2 capping, I tried googling it?
Any help/advice appreciated.
