You may well be right (I'm not a plumber ) but, as ignorance of the regulations doesn't mean they don't apply, one should check before getting out the tools.

Whilst it might not be expected for DIYers to be fully conversant with the regs, it is surely implicit in plying for trade that those that so do are up to speed. Sadly, a very large proportion of notifiable work is carried out daily, for profit, by individuals and small firms in ignorance of (or disregard for) the regulations. Such work - not always sub-standard, by the way - has a high chance of never becoming subject to scrutiny.
Not that I'm able to share here but to keep JohnD happy I'll re-phrase ...
There are more building regulations in this country than any of our major European neighbours or in the US and yet we have no better safety record, allegedly.
