miele washing machine

Can anyone help please. Moved from the UK to France a few months back. Brought with us a Miele Novatronic W828 Washing Machine. Worked fine for a while but now, within a few minutes of switching on, triggers the trip switch and simply switches itself off. Sometimes it works fine, other times simply blows the electrics and seems to die altogether - anyone got any ideas - someone suggested it may have a "live chassis " whatever that is! Machine does have an extended 5 year Miele Guarantee but alas, they wont honour it in France! Users please note guarantee only valid in the country of purchase. Pleaae help - Wife giving me ear bashing!

One possibility is a split in the heater element. This would make it trip as soon as it reached the heating part of the programme. It is also worth checking for slight leaks when it is running as water could be dripping into the motor or other electrical bits.
