Minerelle Worktops

I have seen all types of solid surface material (composite resin surfaces) even from the early 80's when "cultured marble" was the all the rage and installed in almost every hotel, and service station in the country.

Surface scratching (even from from plates or cups) would happen if you had any solid surface material - whether you bought Corian at 4 time the price or any of the other options from Axiom, Bushboard, Getalit or Maia. This can also happen with Laminate (more obvious on smooth solid colours or dark wood effects), glass, granite and solid wood - so if you don't want to scratch the surface you should protect it. The beauty of these materials is that they can be sanded and polished back to the original finish - something you cannot do with the others except solid wood.

All surfaces will need cleaning and some degree of aftercare, however the process you describe is not normal. If you are having this much difficulty - i suspect that your tops have not been sanded and polished correctly when they were installed. You should be able to feel if this is the case - the surface should be perfectly smooth. There should be no feeling of unevenness, lumps bumps or ripples on the surface.

For the cracks - try to e-mail the manufacturer for advice on the minerelle website as this does not seem normal.
