Minor Slope Issue in Shower Base/Shower Pan Area - Fix solution

HELLO EXPERTS

We just had a new bathroom laid from contractor. It is fairly well done and water tight.

Shower pan method of construction
- Pre-Sloped
- Shower Pan Liner and flood tested
- Deck Mud and Hardiback on walls
- Hydroban water proofing everywhere
- Finally tiled with mosaic on shower floor
- Epoxy based grout


PROBLEM Observed
On our first test I observed that there is a water puddle which remains there close to drain. Every where else it drains out very well. When I took a level could see there is an area probably 18inchesx18 inches which has lower level than out sloped area. This is causing the grief. Check attached video.

What will be possible solution ??


Contractor wants to peel of those tiles from offending are and do another quote of hydroban and then mud and tile. Is this best advice? Or any other recommendation ? I have attached a

Hi, the pre-slope & drain are the key to the pan drainage - if you have not got them right you could end up with puddling or even leaks? However, you claim to have got them right.
How long did the water test last?
How did you slope the deck mud?
If you are on a suspended ground floor then go into the crawl space & examine below the shower for leaks.
What make of shower drain did you use? I assume it was a centred drain - not a linear drain.

How long did the water test last?
>> 18 hours and then the store purchased balloon burst in the drain. No leak. Here is what was used

How did you slope the deck mud?
>> I guess this is where there was a minor issue to begin with. It was all good but some area which was not the best.

>> 2nd floor (US) , 1st floor (UK). There are no leaks so far but now the bottom is closed up so I can just do a moisture check.

>> Linear drain - Oatey - 2inch drain pipe. I had him water test prior to everything.

Also under the final mosaic tile there is a liquid moisture barrier - Laticrete Hydroban. He did 2 coats and I did another coat to make sure it is water tight. I don't think there is a moisture seeping yet - too new - however if this is not fixed then we will have a problem

Besides this prior to duck mud there is Oatey Moisture Barrier which has been nailed all the way to the wall upto 6 inch all sides and 4 inches beyond enterance curb.

OP,
Thanks for the various information.
A linear drain is a different proposition to a centred drain. Often a far more difficult to install proposition unless the installer is experienced with linear drains.
Given you've had some difficulties either with the deck mud mix or sloping the mud to the drain then I'd suggest that, if you cant show your video on here then go to "johnbridge.com".
