I wouldn't say it's needed given the wall substrate (backer board) is waterproof anyway. As suggested though, any joints where the boards meet within the wet area then some waterproof webbing or paint on tanking should do.
Could you tell me where i can find them? I have trawled the web and called a couple of 'shower install' companies, but they just sell the kits for £50 or so.
Called a couple of plumbers suppliers and they couldn't really help. They mentioned the butyl tape for sealing the tray to the wall, but no idea about the walls and joints.
Any idea where I can these rolls and liquid seal that you mention Madrab?
I saw that one, they also do a bigger kit but they don't supply enough tape in either of them. I will need around 15m, both kits only supply 10m.
I have looked at using Wedi 610, but unsure if it's suitable for waterproofing joints as the information on it's use is conflicting regarding the addition of a tape or not.
This waterproofing lark is a like a dark art. The materials are either not readily available, hugely expensive and any advice is confusing or not forthcoming. Even talking to the manufacturers of the deltaboards had me spitting my coffee out. £80 for a kit that only had 2.5kg of waterproofing solution.
Just to add more confusion, I went to a bathroom design and fitting shop today. They were puzzled why I was tanking or putting membrane on the joins at all. They don't usually do it unless specified by the customer, because the cement boards do the job and just need gripfilll? in any gaps and corners.
A professional fitter doesn't see the need for any extra waterproofing, the board manufacturer says it IS needed.
