how do you rustproof a car of that period?

Thats a good point, if you apply rust eater it may actually disappear overnight!

My car was fully waxoyled from new, and the process was repeated 12 years ago by the previous owner and again by me last year.
The process involves using a probe to inject this patented stuff into every knook and cranney, inside the sills and chassis rails, the lot SO she been pretty well preserved - I know cos Ive had here stripped to a bare shell bar the engine/gearbox. The only parts that had ben eaten by the tin worm were the front wings around the headlights due to stonechips.
I did find a patch of the floor with some rust where water had sat so I plated that.
Before fitting my GRP front end, I let in lots of new metal to strengthen and reinforce the innerwing and driprails as I was worried about the loss off strength - Its like a tank under there but far lighter than with the real steel panels.
The innerwings and doorposts btw, were coated in white mastic from the factory (they only did it on 2.8 shells) if you peal it back with a stanley, the metal shines like new ;)
I bet I coulod find more rust on most peoples6 or 7 year old renaults, vauxhalls :)

Waste of money ......I Know it`s a 1300 Capri

YOU asked for it  No, a stage 1 rebuilt 2.8 cologne V6 lives under my lightweight GRP bonnet...170 bhp a 5 speed box with short throw shifter, Sailsbury LSD...2" stainless steel (twin) exhausts, RS3100 alloys ;)

Ive spent 2 years bareshelling it...cutting, welding, replacing and renewing to an upgraded, modern, spec...sheding 110kg in the process
It has billet 4 piston brakes, slotted discs and kevlar pads, polybushes alround and new bilstein, suspension, set at a 2" drop.

The seats are freshly reupholstered to original spec, Ive got a brand new carpet and mats to go in and a new dash fascia.

In a week or 2 when Ive finnished the final body prep, its going for a full 2K acrylic Super Gloss Black respay...primer, 2 base coats and 2 clearcoats.

but it still a crapi isnt it?

 sorry dude only messing!

Waxoyle is the best thing they say on all the classic car sites...seems to have worked very well on mine too. I keep the car in the garage adjoining my house with a door through so its warm and bone dry.

There is the option to have the chassis dipped in acid, and then e-coated which is some high tech coating method that permanently rust proofs the metal. I might have this done eventualy cos then its maintainance free which waxoyle isn't - it needs attention and removal and recoating every 10 years imo.

If people don't like Capris, thats fine - I don't like Imprezzas, Corsas and Kas. I think modern cars look gay compared to the rearwheel drive Fords of the 70's and 80's old school Fords forever!!
