mk5 ford fiesta - cleaning jet/screen wash filter

Haynes manual tells you how to take the whole assembly off (reservoir, tubes, motor etc) but never mentions the filters itself.

Anyone any ideas. All i want to do is remove and clean this little filter thing.

So, do you have to do what it says in Haynes (jack the car up, front d/s wheel off, wheel arch trim off etc) just to get to a little plastic thing?

p.s. and i assume it is the filter that is blocked as the motor sound, its not froozen, and the heads are not blocked

Unless your in the Canary Islands I'd hazard a guess that the water is frozen in the pipes or in the reservoir?

Let things thaw a bit and then have another look. Your pump may have blown a pipe off due to the blockage caused by frost. If so you will see the water running from the leak.

i wish i was . The problem, however, started before it dropped below 0, and due to where i live i havent been using the car too much since.

I can therfore say for certain it is not the weather that has blocked it (but of course is not helping at the mo). maybe i should put some Cilit Bang down it

Does the rear screen washer work? If it does, its often the same pump, running backwards.
Look for pipes that have blown off the pump due to freezing, or having parted somewhere along their length. If you can hear the pump buzzing, keep it going for 10 sec or so, and look for fluid leaks under the car or, if you're really unlucky, inside it.

good tip. thanks john ..will check once the weather returns to "nomral"....whenever that will be

however, I would still like to know if anyone knows the answer to my filter question

No idea to be honest mate but is it not just a case of jack it up, turn wheel, loosen a couple of torx screws, and pull the plastic wheel arch liner down a bit to give you access rather than have to strip everything?
Done it loads of times with escorts and fiestas in the past, not the correct way but it works and is easier

You will have to remove the pump from the bottle and the filter is part of the rubber seal for the motor, take it out and you will probably find it blocked with a gel like substance which will be screen wash thats gone bad.(this only applies if the rear washer does not work). hope this helps.

also worth checking if the car has a non return valve fitted in the washer piping underneath the jets, these sometimes block and even fail.
