Phwoarrr

No, not that sort of modelling

Was applying some salactol to a wart earlier, the smell of this chemical being similar to airfix modelling glue. So, browsing and reminiscing about one's yooooof and subsequently searching Amazon , I might take this up again as a little pastime. Do any of you have fond recollections of plastic spitfire kits, or indeed still partake in such wild extravagances?

Yeah I built loads. My fav was an English Electric Lightning (saw one a few weeks ago) and the Lockheed Starfighter. Built a Buccaneer too. Amongst others.

built probably more than a hundred, then got the the ripe old age of 15 and shot them all with air rifles, or blew them up with sumggled french bangers. Ahh then end of innocence.... well not quite, but you may get my drift.

Brilliant post !

Those french red 'petards' were so much better than british bangers, they could have your hand off. Used to buy them by the hundred when on school trips out there. put them in your bags and fly home with them in the hold, you'd end up being waterboarded in some CIA prison if you tried that now.

Had to duck when you went in my bedroom 'cos they were hanging from the ceiling on lengths of cotton. Spits, Hurricanes, Mosquitoes Wellingtons and my favourite a huge Lancaster! Sadly when I got married my dad was putting them in the loft and dropped the box. :( Smashed quite a few of them. Started again when my first was due, didn't know he was going to be a boy, just started building them again but nowhere near as many as I had.
Aah! Happy days.

Used to set them on fire and simulate a crash in the backyard, burnt fingers form the blobs of molten plastic

never smuggled french bangers, you have never lived. Yes they were potent, 20 wired up in a 1:24 spit, quite something... terrible misspent youth!! Loved It.

and i knows someone who claps their hands in glee when a slug or snail is shot dead from a well placed air rifle shot!!

Used to love making the large gliders out of balsa, tissue paper and dope. Can you still buy these kits?
