I know Energenie smart light switches use a master and slave, and need three wires and earth between them, some switches use only two wires, and some use wireless. So you need to read the instructions.
I gave up with dimmer switches when the CFL came out, as they were replaced with LED bulbs, we also got the smart bulb, so no need for a dimmer switch. In the main the smart bulb is better, as the whole idea is ambiance, and the smart bulb can change the colour temperature or even the colour, but the dimmer switch only changes light level.
Where the chandelier has many bulbs, then it may work out cheaper to have a dimmer switch, however in other countries the idea is to select how many lights, rather than dim them, so my landing light has 5 GU10 bulbs, split into 4 outer, and 1 in centre, and I can select 1, 4 or 5 bulbs to switch on. The unit doing the switching is in the lamp, and in the main we use voice control.
The big problem is compatibility,
this is the Energenie compatibility chart and even so, I know the Philips G9 bulbs do not work with the switch. And because it works today, does not mean it will work tomorrow.
I had 5 quartz halogen bulbs in the chandelier in wife's bedroom, as they failed they were replaced with LED, when last one failed, found lights stayed on dim, and there was a shimmer on the bulbs, swapped one bulb for a different make, and all bulbs worked as normal, it's a nightmare trying to find bulbs that will work with any electronic switch that does not use a neutral or batteries.
