I've been a long time lurker and have enjoyed reading many threads on this forum, so it's about time I posted my own now that my project home has commenced!

The thread title is a bit of a giveaway as to what content you should expect to see on here in the forthcoming years. Having bought a lovely, warm, modern, crisp, clean new build in 2012, after 5 years it was time to move on to bigger things and fulfil my ambition to upgrade to a larger property that needed modernising - doing absolutely as much DIY as I can.
The day we moved in I discovered that the velux window at the top of the stairwell, that had the blind shut throughout our purchase process, had a crack right through it! Obviously why the blind was closed, but due to the height it could not be opened without the use of a ladder. Rather than just replace the 78x98cm as seen in the photo, I've opted to upgrade to a 114x140cm white polyurethane Velux. This has now been delivered and I am simply waiting for the weather to improve before attempting my first velux replacement. I've watched a few youtube videos and seen a few threads on here, so now feel quite competent in the replacement - thanks for the help to those that have already made threads on Velux's!

Alongside this, the 90's wallpaper needs to go! I've started stripping it and some of the walls have turned out ok, on others the paint has come away with the paper, leaving a not so smooth surface. I'm torn between rubbing this down and filling the edges and getting a plasterer in to skim the lot! I will opt for the first option in the first instance, then if the end result is not satisfactory then I will see what options I have then.

There is also the dark wood stain staircase that I will be rubbing down and glossing the most of, although I will be removing the spindles and replacing for more streamlined, modern ones.

What you saying then? 3 or 6 months to have it all done?

This is just the tip of the iceburg Ian! I have bathroom, ensuites, kitchen, lounge, dining room, infact the whole house needs bringing up to date. The problem is, it's like opening a can of worms - each job i've started so far has unearthed a previous bodge or items that have been seriously neglected, like roof leaks! This is going to be an on going project for a good few years to come!
