I think Labour and the Tories should ignore this at their peril. I get fed up with people being classed as racist whenever they try to discuss this issue. Are some people who don't want the small boat people etc coming in racist? Of course. Only an idiot would think otherwise. However not everyone who's concerned is racist. Again only an idiot would think so.
Year in year out, our governments fail to properly address the matter. If Labour think getting tough on the gangs is going to resolve this (remember Regan and Thatcher 'getting tough' on the drug gangs?) then they're deluded.
I'll say again. We should spend a few billion on much better border patrols. Build basic, safe, clean accommodation to house illegal migrants in whilst their application is being assessed. Employ many more staff to process applications. And don't have a policy of simply waving the high majority of them in.
There's nowt racist about it. Our borders need to be properly managed and government need to be pulling out all the stops to make the UK not seem like the ideal destination.
Finally, on a global scale, our beloved leaders should be coming up with a joint initiative re how they're going to manage migration over the coming decades, because one thing is for sure. It's only going to get worse.
