thanks guys for your replies,
been told now to rmovbe fuse 4 +11 and do an ECU reset.take out leave for half hour ,pop fuses back in then take for a steady run for bout 1 hor.were going to skeggy tonight so ill see if that works and keep u posted thanks.
ps whhere is idle speed valve..in throttle housing??

no luck guys.where exactly is the idle speed valve located??had plenum off today and sprayed throttle with carb cleaner.have got haynes it says isv is accessed from underneath but cant find.tried resetting ecu by removing no 4 +11 fuses but to no avail.went for a 2 hour drive after.how do i check cat for fault,there is no apparent sound coming from it .it sounds ok.when car starts after being stood for a while it stalls or revs drop low then shoot up then drop with a smell of petrol inside car.sorry to sound a bit dumb on this subject but i have become obsessed with this problem and im on its case till i mend it.wouldnt be possible without help from u folks though.may have to chuck towel in though and take it to ford for a proper diagnostic test..80 quid?? just one more thing ...when i turn the car off there is what sounds like an electronic whine..is that the ecu..forgot to mention that ,thanks

evenin to'yall,

finally had it diagnosed and guess what!!!...it was the frickin COIL pack after all so the w..AA..nk**s led me off the scent from the start.the first thing he said was that the coil was ok..bet he was thinkin im not mendin it for him

in hindsight i should have had it tested with a multimeter from the start and not took his word but hey never mind its running ok now( fingers crossed )..lesson learned maybe
