Flippin' marvellous. This was just the steer I needed to dig a bit deeper. Bought a new capacitor (rather bigger than the old one but same tech spec) and hey presto, it works; happy family again. Need a bit of modification to the casing to fit it but no probs with that. Many thanks, Tryitandsee.

Blimey, this old thread still going. Glad it was still useful. My pump is still going strong with that same replaced capacitor - touch wood!
I guess like most things that are well made like that Stuart pump, they need to build into them a simple fault in order to create revenue on parts/labour.
