Typical response from this bunch. I would never recommend a cowboy builder to do it himself. This guy legally can do it, and looks like he can as well. Can I recommend that you get a Gas Safe registered engineer to do the work, just to ensure the safety of you and yours. That way it will be confirmed from the get go that it is gas tight, running correctly, not spilling POC's into the living space and certified as OK.

Oh shut up ... I deliberately didn't quote your advice in the hope you would finally appreciate that this is a public forum, everyone is able to give advice without mouthy responses, professionals and amateurs alike and it's up to the OP to decide which to take.
Did I say it was or wasn't illegal?? back in yer box!!
Touch paper lit...
Wait for it...
How does he prove competency ?Typical response from this bunch. I would never recommend a cowboy builder to do it himself. This guy legally can do it, and looks like he can as well.
How does he prove competency ?
How does he prove competency ?
Read what I wrote. By his results. Not by a certificate. Many Gassafe guys I have come across I would not let through my front door. And they have pieces of paper. How does he prove competency ?
Yep that would doACS?
Couldnt give a toss, anyone carrying out gas work has to PROVE competency, you are correct that as he is working in his own home and not carrying out the work for reward that he does not have to be Gas Safe registered but he still has to be competentRead what I wrote. Again..........Competency is proven by results, not by a piece if paper. It is not not difficult to understand.Couldnt give a toss, anyone carrying out gas work has to PROVE competency, you are correct that as he is working in his own home and not carrying out the work for reward that he does not have to be Gas Safe registered but he still has to be competent
FACT is he cant , get used to it, if he can PROVE competency then he can, but he cant so he cant legally do it, you go and do it for him, can you prove that you are competent ?Again..........Competency is proven by results, not by a piece if paper. It not not difficult to understand.
The fact is he can legally move his boiler. Get used to it
Having seen discussions many times on here for both plumbing and electrics, my conclusion is that the confusion starts with the building regulations because they are prescriptive, IE they they state the requirement for the end result, they dont define the route to reach that point.FACT is he cant , get used to it, if he can PROVE competency then he can, but he cant so he cant legally do it, you go and do it for him, can you prove that you are competent ?
That is completely correctbut it seems proving that means qualifications are pretty much a necessity.
