I have heard that said, but the numbers of police supporting being armed will increase where and when it becomes essential.
Police are obviously very vulnerable without fairly powerful arms - tasers or handguns, therefore so is the rest of the public.
I still think of the policeman (also an ex soldier) guarding Westminster who died bravely trying to stop a knife man, as an example of the need for more armed police.

If you think all UK police should be armed with firearms then you're going to lose the 2 thirds that the other 1 third think shouldn't be armed, because they'll never pass the strict testing & training they have to go through.

If you import half the world's ethnicities without proper screening then you are going to get the bad along with the good.
Having said that most migrants are no better or worse than any other people.
Now that the UK has adopted a policy of multiculturalism rather than compulsory assimilation with the majority population the UKs major Cities are a now a hotbed of marginalised subcultures.
You have people from abroad who have lived in Britain for decades , they have British passports but they still can't speak a word of English because they only interact with their own community.
So it not surprising that you have these individuals who have problems identifying with mainstream society.
It is the same up in Scotland, in Glasgow a while back there were sectarian riots over religion, Celtic and Rangers football matches are just war by another means.

This ISIS terrorism comes entirely from one culture. The muslim culture. Of course the vast majority of muslims arent terrorists but peace loving British citizens like the rest of us. But we must be able to discuss this problem without being called racist, but at the same time avoid increasing Islamophobia, which is already quite high in this country.

As a student I lived in High Wycombe, which has one of the highest asian communities in the UK. It did shock me that many of the muslim womwn didnt speak English. The muslim community were all based around one part of the town, it was very rare to see Muslims in the shopping centre.

It does seem like amongst the Muslim community there is a lack of integration with British society. I dont khow if this is a reason for radicalisation, but non integrated sub cultures do seem to create them and us attitudes.

This is what 'they' want you to believe. If you actually talked with a muslim you would find that there is no place for terrorism in Islam.

Because from what I see, it's a warped, extreme view of Islamic faith, and Islamism is the hook that reels the idiotic people in.. The religion has been hijacked & warped by terrorists, granted, but it still stems from Islam and it's still Muslims who are members.

ISIS terrorism and ideology has its roots in the middle east.
The Manchester bomber is a case in point,
If you go back to David Cameron's decision to bomb Libya in support of anti Gaddafi rebels, In order to get support for his intervention in Libya Cameron dishonestly portrayed these rebels as ordinary Libyans trying to remove a tyrant.
The rebels in question were actually Islamic fundamentalists linked to Al Qaeda , with the help of NATO Gaddafi was deposed and Libya descended into civil war, with Gaddafi gone the fundamentalists grew in strength and it was from this background the Manchester bomber emerged.

That is exactly what my jibe about armed police was aimed at, - the police being inadequately protected against criminals and terrorists and therefore leaving the public also unarmed and unprotected. If that were to continue, then the public should have the right to arm themselves.
It almost certainly will not happen in most of U.K. hopefully (as we do not admittedly want to be like USA)
It should be noted that in Northern Ireland terrorists often attacked people in public or in their own homes unopposed as most ordinary public members were unarmed thanks to British laws banning ownership of self protection weapons.
