Hi, I recently dug out my garden (on a new build so you probably know where this is going) and the ground is very soft. I’m replacing my grass with artificial grass as the natural grass is unusable by my two dogs due to how mucky it gets throughout most of the year.

I went ahead and covered about half the garden in MOT type 1 before reading that a membrane under the MOT is advisable to stop the MOT from sinking.

Most of the advice I have seen online is relevant to areas where heavy objects or vehicles will be on the area and therefore a membrane under the MOT is strongly recommended.

As we’ll only be walking on the grass is it safe to plough on with laying the MOT without membrane, without much fear of the grass sinking over time, or have I made a major error and need to re-think?

Cheers for your time.

I don't know the answer to your question. I would however recommend that you buy an enzyme based cleaner to eventually break down the small of the wee. We made the mistake of using a "foam" layer under the fake grass and on top of the ground porcelain(?) dust. In time, the areas where they pee'd got a tad smelly. Strangely, we never noticed it when the garden was paved.
