Then a laminate put down!

But if push came to shove, we can still get under the floor in the hall.

dont go worrying too much that is just a bit of site bitching, you will be fine if done correctly

I know about gsiur, but the op doesn't have gas filled rads(y)
I assumed you meant the underlying reason had some relevance not merely that it's illegal. Is also illegal to use compression fitting and copper pipe as an electrical conductor in an office building, but that's also hardly relevant
 
Here is the underside of my boiler, with the plastic tray removed:

Push fit connectors properly installed are miles better than a compression fitting. You're thinking based on hunches and assumptions, that somehow metal is better than plastic. A push fit connection once properly installed will _not leak_ and will probably outlive you. Those compression fittings could be weeping within a year.
