I’m building a single storey rear extension however there is a mains drain in the rear which is very deep and will be in the footing. Is it possible to get it moved or so they have to run in straight lines? Thanks

How deep is deep, is there an inspection chamber in your garden and where is the run in relation to your planned rear foundation?

There’s an inspection chamber, the drain in 4m from the house so I was going to go up to it as
Much as I could with the footing so I didn’t have to do anything with the drain however the drain doesn’t run parrallel with the house and is runs from 4m to 3.4m from the house so will be under the extension , the drain is approx 10ft deep

If it's 3m deep your going to need a very large budget for foundations/groundworks if you can even get the water company to agree to it

Are there any other techniques I could use for an extension that wouldn’t require footings?

Regardless of foundations, the Water Company may not allow you to build over the pipe anyway, some insist it is diverted around the footprint of the Building at your cost. The concern is, should there be issues with the sewer at a later date, if there is a building over it, they cannot get to it.

You need to speak to the Water Co first, and see what they will allow, and/or what they would want doing to facilitate your build.

So moving the main sewer is possible to do on our property, it can have bends in to divert it?

You need more detail. Are you sure about the depth: 10 feet is awfully deep for just 2 houses

You are generally able to build over a sewer subject to WC approval. At 10 feet you'd almost certainly require piles to ensure no loads wound up on the pipe.

Diverting is always a possibility (you're even able to use your own contractors) but you will need a chamber to change direction not a bend and you will still have to have a workable fall over the new run.
