Mower deck swap when different sizes

Hi,
Towards the end of the cutting season my deck on the mower decided to split a good 4 to 5 inches & in the past ive welded a plate on i thought it was time to stop due to now the weight of it etc.

I picked up another mower & have been using that with no issues but what was i to do with this split deck mowe,my plans were to just take it to the tip so this is what i did.

Whilst i was there i have seen a Mountfield were the deck was realy good condition so my old mower & this mower ended up back at my place.

Straight away then i noticed that the new one had a bigger deck.
Bars measure the same length & also the width is the same.
Selp propell had the cable missing & also throttle cable missing but my goal here is to salvage the deck.
Bars & Engine off ive turned it upside down & given it a good scrap & painted with metal rust paint.

My plan now is to fit the Bars & Engine from the other mower.

Measuring the widest part of the deck its say 21 inch & my old one around 19 inch.

So first question.

Is the hole configuration in both decks drilled the same,meaning my engine will sit & bolt up fine ?

Second question.

Just fitting a longer blade will also solve that issue as my smaller blade will leave a nice section of uncut grass along the edges of paths etc.

I’ve little experience of this, however I did change a Kawasaki engine for a Briggs V twin, and I was happy to see the mounting holes were the same.
No reason for you not to redrill the deck if you need to, of course!

Ok with regards the blade do i meaure inside distance & take of say 2 inches.
That then leaves me with 1 inch clearance from tip of blade to inside metal of deck.

If thats the case ive seen an 18 inch blade.

Both decks are mountfield so i suppose i was asking Do Mountfield use the same hole pattern in decks as we know many decks are different but engines the same & vice versa ?

If you intend to cut a blade you’ll need to be very accurate indeed or it will be heavily out of balance......this includes grinding the cutting edge too.
I’d be surprised if the engine mounting holes weren’t identical.

I need to buy a blade as the owner of the one i took from tip removed it.
So i need to replace it.
So as i have nothing to go buy the inside distance side to side is 20 inches

So i was asking do i just buy an 18 inch blade.

If you know the model of the “new” deck just buy a blade for that model.

I don’t.
The blade boss looks the same so I’m thinking the blades are the same just length is different.

Turn your deck over and check the clearance then make sure you achieve at least the same amount.

So deck is over & measured at 20 inches side to side.My old deck to blade is about an inch gap either side so i wil think i will order up an 18 inch blade for this

New blade may need to match the deck or may not eject the clippings into the bag efficiently.

Ho can you tell that.The boss that it fits onto look the same so other than the length of the blade i dont see any di9fference unless you can advise

It would come down to shape of the blade and amount of lift at the trailing edges, Old Salt gave you the right advice to follow

I’m pretty sure that 19” blades are available, so many are interchangeable......Mountfield, Stiga, GGP and some Honda seem to fit the same boss.
