I'm glad about that, he seems a nice lad by all accounts, so good luck to him in his recovery. Now can we get back to the footy? People die of his condition all the time, and he was incredibly lucky to have collapsed on a premier league pitch where immediate help and expertise was available. If it had happened while he was at the shops he would most likely be dead now. So let's forget all of this mass hysteria (Bolton even talking about pulling out of the cup ffs). The internet age of instant messaging and instant news has turned everyone into a gang of stupid, gossiping old women.

ROFL

At you there, good for him to be hopefully onto recovery.

ROFL At you there,
Why?? For suggesting that this thing has been a media led feeding frenzy over something that "just happens". Which would never have happened just a few short years ago. A lad in Jaguar, Liverpool was crushed to death a few months ago, the area was roped off for an investigation I believe and everyone else carried on. To suggest that the Bolton players are too traumatised to play the match is ridiculous. No one suggested that Liverpool should pull out after Hillsborough. Like I said, I wish the lad all the best in his recovery, I just don't want to hear about it in every news bulletin or read about it in every paper. The lad collapsed, nearly died, got took to hospital and is hopefully on the way to recovery, end of story. We don't need reporters posted at different hospitals and football grounds to tell us all the same thing over and over. A bulletin here or there fair enough. As joe90 has said in the recent past, it's all about mass hysteria. People in general these days seem so affected by whatever the media decide is a "good story" that it makes you wonder how easy to control they are as a group. When Lincoln said you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people etc. etc. He didn't envisage the internet and facebook and satellite communications, which worryingly, all seem to make people more easily led instead of less.

I was laughing at the "Gossiping old women" remark. As your pretty much like one one here ;) (Excuse the wink).

I agree however there is too much said about people, a friend has a stroke last week. I am more worried about him, but it was minor. I have not pestered all and sundry on here for pleasantries nor written to local or national papers.
Again (Back to the footballer) if his leg had been broken with a compound fracture ( Ever seen one close up, heard the snap?) They would have played on then.
So I agree. Too much hype about as you rightly say something that could have killed him without the assistance available at the game.

I was nearly killed once on a football pitch. Kicked full in the stomach, ruptured liver, loads of internal bleeding. Pulled through after a week on the critical list in intensive care and just over 3 months in the hossy.
That was during a games lesson just before I left school. Nobody suggested that footy should be banned during games lessons, and nor should they have done.
Nowadays they'd probably take down the goal posts and dig up the pitch.

Been knocked out on the pitch, fractured jaw. Concussed, another time a leg broken. Another a arm. Goalkeeping can be a bit dodgy especially Sat league  Oh and the obligatory fingers broken.

Yours was admittedly far more serious.

Cricket, bat around the head - Wicket Keeper - Fractured skull.

Again no one suggested we stop playing, well my mother did but that's another story :D
Today you could be right. All the pools with high boards have gone here.
Open air ones all but gone. Especially the lakes we were allowed to swim in.
At least there are still parts of the Thames we can swim in!!!

Children will never have the fun we have experienced IMHO.

Unfortunately thats down to people wanting to make a quick payday.

If a child climbs a tree to collect conkers and falls.....there is a claim somewhere. People are so afraid now of being sued, they are restricting everything kids can do.

When I was about 12, I fell from a tree, resulting in a 6" nail through my knee. My parents didnt sue the neighbour though.....today, there would have been a claim put in.

Get rid of this claim culture and I think kids will have more fun....couple of scrapes and bruises on the way, but thats what being kid is about[/quote]

Just read somewhere that Bolton will decide tomorrow whether to play against Blackburn on saturday.
ffs, stop all the ridiculous hand wringing and get on with it.

This incident only proves what a load of whimps they are. If I were playing I would have had a little cry and then because the lad would not want me to be disappointed, get on with he game.

Agreed with the above.

If I was him and recovered with a decent mind retained I would be disgusted with this "hand wringing".

Goes to show footballers are overpaid poofs.
