I’m my wife’s boss at work. She’s always disobeying me. When I threaten to give her a warning she tells me to .........no, I couldn’t possibly say!

Its the reporters job to get you to answer a question that you shouldn't be answering. Get that headline.. tension etc.. Its your job, no matter what your opinion to defer to the person authorised. You hear constantly the phrase "that's a question you should ask x." even if they have a view. The purpose of a media briefing is to brief the media according to your agenda.

That is not to say they can't be independent, but as we know with Covid - there is the science, the economy and the politics. You have to stick to your knitting.

Are you a criminal lawyer then? I only wonder as media interest tends to be due to crime.
Thats not really true. You'll find the media are interested in all sorts, from M&A to innovation or even simply earnings reports. Can you imagine looking after someone like Elon Musk?

It should be the reporters job to get to the facts and information. But now we have sensationalised news because the Government puts forward pointless spivs who are in full on rebuttal mode so the journalists instead try to trip up the official.

Perhaps if the Government was a more transparent and honest - it would bring about a change in the journalists.

I don't think its because of that - sensational headlines grab clicks and readers. Been like that for over 40 years.. Look at these two headlines on the same story..
