my hygena dishwasher doesn't fill with enough water

hi i wonder if anybody can help my hygena dishwasher doesn't seem to be using enough water.Some is getting through but when you put it on a rinse the dirty plates stay dirty and while going through the normal cleaning cycle too little water is getting in that the heating elements are causing damage to the childrens platic plates etc. From what I've read it may have something to do with the water check valve? Any ideas???
