Yes back to something stable then work from there.
For me, wall plate levered up and the bricks and slate pulled out. Not as damp as the old kitchen or dining room but still not dry.
Next step lever the wall plate off and chuck away. It'll be quite rotten underneath.
Cleaned a lot of crap out. Lots of wood rotten. Air brick cavity full of muck. But looks good under the rest of the floor in general, the worse was def. where the rot was.
This was next to the water pipe, along with some rubbish the installer could not be bothered to take away!
All plasterboard removed, and battens. And a message on the wall too....
What is that message? Looks like a riddle, perhaps telling you where the gold is?
Looks clean under your floor now. Ours is very dusty as there's a very thin layer of what passed for concrete in the 1920s and under that is hardcore with plenty of voids.
Anyway my update if you don't mind me spamming your thread is a trip to wickes for tiling stuff and then two new wall plates, I'll knock out the old one on the second photo once the cement has gone off and I've fitted some folding wedges.
And for good measure here is the tiling, first attempt ever for my wife while I was doing the floor.
No problem! Yeah, floor seems quite solid, far better than I was expecting. Trying to decide how many boards to take up..... But now decided to rip all out. Will get fresh joists, insulate, and new boards.
New plan is to finish this room and make it the temp lounge, then we can turn old lounge into our bedroom, after taking chimney out....
Airbricks are in, sort of. 2 new holes made, need finishing off outside. Pipes lagged (think I bought it too small, but its over the old lagging, so better than nothing!
Good! Make sure the insulation boards are pushed against your floor boards. Don't want any space for air movement there or all your expensive insulation will be wasted
Yeah, putting 50mm wool insulation on top of this, and sealing edges with tape, just done first bit. Doing one 60cm board at a time, so I can access without risking falling through it!
