After many years wanting one, I finally succumbed and bought a Paslode 1st fix nail gun for a timber frame and a few roofing jobs coming up.

And its a joy to use. No messing, just load press and fire - job done.

I hardly used the hammer this weekend, and I really don't think I will do any first fixing without the nail gun in future.

I also bought a Ryobi impact wrench for screwing and coach screwing timbers together. Again, no messing with drills and bolts, it just drives the screws in no messing

I had been wondering about that Ryobi, was gonna be that or the Bosch but your positive experience has swayed me (and the price diff.) What's the biggest/deepest screws you have driven in?

100mm m8 coach screws trough two joists - and it automatically stops when the head goes below the surface!

Both tools are noisy though, so if working at head height, then ear defenders are recommended

i got the ryobi last summer as a "i think there must be a use for this tool"

fist job removing 25 year old rusty slot heads on guttering dead easy

will pull 4"12s strait through a batton like your using balsa wood :D

as woody says gets very noisy but only when the pressure slows the drive down and the rotary action turns int a very slow rotary impact action hence the power and noise

also if your using drill bits take plenty spares as the tork will break them

the paslode is a good bit of kit but does have its limitations. i carry one in the van and use it for first fix on decking etc, but ive just got a coil nailer for fixing the deckboards, as its much faster. Still wouldnt be without it though.

Couple of tips

clean it reguarly. its easy to do and does make a difference to stop misfires etc.

watch the charger as the socket connection gets very loose very easily.

it can misfire if you use it on a very hot day. i think its due to the expansion of the gas.

keep the batteries charged as they take an ae to charge, and dont forget to take the battery out of the gun before you put it away (easily forgotten)

finally you can get nails and gas a lot cheaper as paslodes patent to the gas etc has run out so theres plenty of stuff just as good that fits it and cheaper (toolstation for one)

Oh and find an empty field so you can stand there, pull the safety mechanism back and fire off a couple to see how far they go!
