Neither. They won't help with what you've got. Either rely on the slightly rickety arrangement you've built, or do as Munroist says.

To be honest yes i know, i may even put something totally solid underneath it maybe a block of metal or cement or bricks but it's getting the size right. Here's my table anyway; The height is 14 cm, the width is 24cm and the length is 30 cm.

no I meant all the way along the join, thus strengthening the whole of this otherwise very weak join

when I 'square' I meant the profile of the wood. Therefore if the length of the join was 240mm then the bit of timber needed would be 50x50x240


Thanks, I was thinking of doing 2 battens each side along the length. What type of wood is best for the battens?
