Nanny state at it again ...

Well maybe it's a bit odd but just about every house I've lived in actually has a little dial on the boiler where you can set the temperature yourself....

I agree with Peter Luff, he's my MP and a very nice man too :D

Surely it's the responsibility of the parents to make sure the bath water is the correct temperature before putting their kids in?

As for old people, then running cold in first is always a good idea.

Maybe the answer is "Education, education, education"!

Mine too...

You have to be a bit retarded to burn yourself in a bath, don't you? I mean, who jumps straight in without testing the water?

Oh the nanny state
Life has consequences, educate people, then let them be responsible for their own actions.
Did you know there was a labour mp a few years ago who wanted ALL knives banned in the home! she said you could get everything done by trained professionals and having no knives would eliminate accidents in the home.
I actually stabbed myself when I missed the voodoo doll I made of her

That's insulting. Are you claiming that the 600 old people and young children who suffer scalding are all retarded?

At first I was surprised at the statistics of the number of scaldings, but fact is some times people in general dont have good sense. If I had to guess I would think that the largest percentage would be due to old(er) people only because the lack of thinking before you leap....I watched as my older neighbor...reached into a fan...while it was on to clean the lint off...he never realized or thought it out that it was running...and it would hurt him. Why not simply turn down the temperature of the water heater...keep it at a maximum (safe) temp. Most ppl wouldnt figure out how to change this....

Whats next?...kettles that only warm water?...candles that dont light?...compulsory cold food in case someone burns their mouth on a chip?

in 2004 trouser-related accidents rose from 5,000 to 9,400, although zip fly related accidents fell slightly to 700.

Legislate for that!!!

Some people have lack of feeling in their extremities and can quite easily burn themselves, it's a good idea methinks

So they're not retarded, then?

A bit of topic, but in a similar vain. my local counsel are testing headstones in the municipal cemertry, because they say there have been recorded accidents ,even fatalites caused by unsafe headstones nation wide.
Concequently scores of headstones in the cemertry have been deemed unsave including my mothers, which I have since inspected and I cannot get any movement out of the headstone by pushing, pulling it.
.Still I better pay the£60 to make it safe as I would hate the thought of my mothers headstone falling on someone and causing a fatality ,albeit only 2ft high

No. Just elderly will do. And there's no need to be offensive.
