nasty smell from air con ?

using the a/c in the car today and noticed a bad smell coming from it ? not really bad but as good as the misses farts ! any ideas ? cud it be due to low pressure ? alo noticed recently a/c goes cooler whislt working then temp goes back up again ? a strange one me thinks eh ? what about the condenser ? told these r problem some on ford focus's ? oh and wheres it situated along with the recharge point on these cars anyone know ? ta.

It will be condensation in the bottom of the heater box. When the aircon runs, it generates lots of it. There's supposed to be a drain hole in the bottom, but it's always pretty damp in there. After the winter when it hasn't been running that much, there will be all sorts of bugs and slime in there. You can buy aircon system cleaners, deodourants and sanitisers from places like Halfords.

Comma do an A/C deodoriser (as well as others).....set the controls to air con on, minimum temperature and recycling, then set the aerosol off and let everything run for 10 mins or so. It does clear any bacteria from the condenser matrix.
However - I've found in the majority of cases its been down to wet carpets, so check out the pollen filter as advised (early ones at the bottom of the screen) and Ford supply a sealing strip to keep the water hopefully out.
