"Net Zero"

PEM electrolysers are not 'break through technology'. They have been around for over 50 years.
Odd comment, I didn't say there were breakthrough. The recent designs of them are way better than 50 years ago though!

It is a disastrous material that we can't do without
But we can significantly reduce its' usage. Multi storey timber structures are now far more feasible because of advances in CLT (cross laminated timber) manufacture (tallest one I worked on was only 6 floors, in Manchester, but there is an 18 storey/85m high CLT building in Norway). Limecrete can replace concrete in some instances, especially on domestic builds Where concrete must be used carbon can be added back into it (e.g. as a CO2 infusion) which increases the strength, etc. A few of the buildings I've worked on in recent years have used steel frames with timber joists snd timber floors specifically to reduce the carbon footprint of the building - this is becoming a lot more common on public buildings

A lot of money is being invested in DIRFT and similar facilities, and one of the main factors in favour of HS2 is removing passengers from the WCML so that more freight can hauled.
HS2 would also free up more train paths into Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds if fully built, which would greatly help with commuting hours delays and congestion

Maybe we need to breed cows to fart oxygen instead of methane.
You might like to know that the Dutch are breeding cattle which fart less, and are also working on diets for cattle which reduce their tendency to fart

just a point of order the methane comes out of the other end. Its part of the digestion process of ruminants, the methane is burped out. And yes they are working on diets to reduce this (something to do with sea weed?)

Yes, seaweed
