New boiler fitted, is this normal?

Hi

I had a new boiler fitted yesterday, of course alot smaller than the previous 18 year old one so expected some diy around it but it was not expecting this! They said our walls are just single brick and partition wall so they had no choice. It seemed like the old boiler was hung on some sort of board first from what we could see underneath but they're saying it wasn't and this is how the old one was.

Is this ok? Is it normal? Should I be complaining or getting a second opinion? Any ideas on how to fix on a budget as this eyesore just cost £2800 so money is now tight! I've attached screenshots from a video I took but was too big to upload.

Thank you in advance

Boiler installers tend to do whatever is quickest and easiest for them, was this a Boxt or Heatable install? It looks poor and I wouldn’t be happy either but you will find that they have covered themselves in the t&c’s so as long as it meets installation and safety standards then it’s down to you to do the cosmetic work.

I would give them the opportunity to answer any concerns you have and then if your still not happy seek a second opinion. I wouldn't be happy with it, but I'm a gas safe registered engineer, so tend to be picky.

Heatable thought we were safer with them than Boxt. Unfortunately couldn't afford local tradespeople as the quotes were £800+ more. Aware of the t&c but seems like they could knock out half the kitchen and get away with it now! Just was worried about if it was secured enough as the bottom batton doesn't even go all the way (can see in the last pic)

Yeah I spotted that, but it looks like several pieces of timber, maybe they're secure to the brickwork? The boiler hangs on the top batton anyway.

Thank you, they attempted to answer the concerns but it was a bit of a 'is what it is' situation. I'll speak to heatable Monday as we also paid for magnacleanse but they want to do power flush but then said your radiators are old and will probably leak so we obviously don't want that ‍♀️

Bear in mind the Boiler needs to be fitted to a clean system. How it is cleaned is not specified, but a Powerflush tends to be the accepted method.

The Manufacturers may wriggle out of any warranty claims if they decide the system wasn't adequately clean before the new Boiler was fitted to it.

They did a chemical flush but are leaving it in there for a few days before coming back to remove it then do a power flush (but we chose magnacleanse). I did say I would have thought that the boiler wouldn't be connected until 18yr of build up has been flushed out but they said it's fine as there is a filter? I expressed that surely that meant the filter could get clogged already but they said no it's fine.

I'm assuming from what you've said that I was right about it needing the flush before it's up and running

Manufacturers stipulate the Boiler must be fitted to a clean system, the Waterways in new boilers are very small and can block easily, so general practice now is to powerflush the system prior to fitting the boiler.

Powerflushing involves pumping water around the system at fairly high velocity, in order to loosen and wash out the crud and sludge that has built up over the lifetime of the system, whereas a chemical flush may well loosen and remove some of the muck, I doubt it will clean the pipework/radiators to the same standard as the machine. Are they coming back to powerflush?

Magnetic Filter will collect muck as it passes through, but this will need checking and cleaning at intervals, the frequency of which will depend on how much muck is still in the system.

Yes next week but they said we'll have to sign a disclaimer because they reckon it's likely to be too high pressure for our system saying it's old (1980 build?!) so it's making me not want the power flush and have the safer sounding magnacleanse that we've paid for because we really can't afford to be having leaks and replacing radiators especially now we have to figure out how to sort the hole in the wall

Not a brilliant job.

Getting the system cleaned is a must as others have said...

As for the boiler, i assume you are building a cupboard around it?
